Engine/generator noise is transmitted by two means..... mechanically through the motor mounts and via the air. In either case the vibration attaches to the hull of the vessel which acts like a large speaker cone, blasting the noise throughout the boat. Silent Running is coated onto your hull, stringers, engine beds, bulkheads, ceilings, hatch covers and enclosures that surround the engine, reducing the vibration at its source and greatly reducing the noise source. Old style foam only attempts to absorb the already created noise (after the fact). Foam absorbs odors, oil and fluids and deteriorates over time. You cannot clean foam and it looses its effectiveness over time. How much noise will it reduce? Tests have shown typical reductions of 50%. Of course, each installation is different so the amount of noise reduction will vary from application to application.
